Fresh Espresso is Now Available Aboard the ISS

European Space Agency astronaut Sam Cristoforetti is living the high life: freshly brewed espresso is now available aboard the International Space Station.

Cristoforetti has Italian coffeemaker Lavazza to thank for her gourmet brew. The company worked in conjunction with Italian contractor Argotec to produce to the machine, dubbed "ISSpresso".
The ISSpresso project is so complex that NASA considers it to be abona fide scientific experiment; the machine must be completely leak-proof (the last thing the astronauts need is a runaway blob of boiling coffee) and withstand high amounts of pressure, all while maintaining its taste. Cristoforetti is an Italian, after all -- she knows good espresso when she tastes it.
